Problem

Imagine a 3×33 \times 3 grid of squares — 99 squares in all.

You have 99 chips to place, one per square: 33 red chips, 33 blue chips, and 33 green chips. Chips of the same color all look the same.

There is one rule. Two chips of the same color may not sit right next to each other side by side or up and down. (Touching only at a corner is fine.)

How many different ways can you place all the chips?
