Problem

Suppose we make up a new operation, written with a star *. The rule is: aba * b means "take three times aa, then subtract bb." So ab=3aba * b = 3a - b.

For example, 47=3×47=54 * 7 = 3 \times 4 - 7 = 5.

Now we want a number xx that makes this true:
2(5x)=1.2 * (5 * x)=1.

Start with the inside part (5x)(5 * x) first, then handle the outside.

What is xx?

Pick an answer.

(A)
$frac{1}{10}$
(B)
2
(C)
$frac{10}{3}$
(D)
10
(E)
14
